L-Argine Benefits

What is L-Arginine?

L-arginine is an amino acid that has numerous functions in the body. It helps the body get rid of ammonia (a waste product), is used to make compounds in the body such creatine, L-glutamate, and L-proline, and can be converted to glucose and glycogen if needed.
L-arginine is used to make the nitric oxide, a compound in the body that relaxes blood vessels. Preliminary studies have found that L-arginine may help with conditions that improve when blood vessels are relaxed (called vasodilation), such as atherosclerosis, erectile dysfunction, and intermittent claudication.
L-arginine is also involved in protein formation. In larger amounts, L-arginine stimulates the release of hormones growth hormone and prolactin.

Why Do People Use L-Arginine?

  • Heart disease

In the body, L-arginine is used to make nitric oxide, which reduces blood vessel stiffness, increases blood flow, and improves blood vessel function.
However, L-arginine should not be used following a heart attack. An study sponsored by the National Institutes of Health examining the use of L-arginine after a heart attack was terminated early after six patients died, a disproportionate number. There were no deaths in the patients who did not receive L-arginine.
The study researchers speculate that L-arginine may aggravate the effects of cardiac shock. The results were published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
  • Erectile Dysfunction

L-arginine has been used for erectile dysfunction. Like the drug sildenafil citrate (Viagra), L-arginine is thought to enhance the action of nitric oxide, which relaxes muscles surrounding blood vessels supplying the penis. As a result, blood vessels in the penis dilate, increasing blood flow, which helps maintain an erection. The difference in how they work is that Viagra blocks an enzyme called PDE5 which destroys nitric oxide and L-arginine is used to make nitric oxide.
In one study, 50 men with erectile dysfunction took either 5 grams of L-arginine per day or a placebo. After six weeks, more men in the L-arginine group had an improvement compared to those taking the placebo. Unlike Viagra, L-arginine must be taken daily.
  • Wound healing

L-arginine's possible activity in wound repair may be due to its role in the formation of L-proline, an important amino acid that is essential for the synthesis of collagen.
  • Other Conditions

L-arginine is also used for high blood pressure, migraines, sexual dysfunction in women, intermittent claudication, and interstitial cystitis.

Sources of L-Arginine

L-arginine is conditionally essential, which means that the body normally has enough. It's produced in the kidney and to a lesser extent, in the liver.
Food sources of L-arginine include plant and animal proteins, such as dairy products, meat, poultry, fish, and nuts. The ratio of L-arginine to lysine is also important - soy and other plant proteins have more L-arginine than animal sources of protein.
Severe burns, infections, and injuries can deplete the body's supply of arginine. Under these conditions, L-arginine becomes essential and it is necessary to ensure proper intake to meet the increased demands.
L-arginine is also essential for children with rare genetic disorders that impair the formation of L-arginine.

TONGKAT ALI BENEFITS

Although well known and highly regarded in eastern cultures, Tongkat Ali has only recently began to emerge as an alternative treatment in European and western markets. Now, online providers report an upturn in consumer interest and sales across Europe and throughout the U.S.
Also Dr Oz recent live television coverage of Tongkat Ali has served to increase the herb popularity across the United States.
Traditionally, Tongkat Ali is consumed to promote overall good health and at the same time, addresses factors that contribute to erectile dysfunction, improving blood circulation and increasing overall vitality.
The key to success and getting results with Tongkat Ali is for the user to understand what is actually being purchased and how the herbal remedy is formulated.
Tongkat Ali is a plant or rather a small tree found in the tropical rainforests of South East Asia. Traditionally only the roots of the tree are used for medicinal purposes. The way it is consume by the indigenous people is to take a small amount of the root (usually 50 to 100 gram) and boil it with 20 ounces of water for an hour or so and then drink the ‘herbal soup’.
Modern research has confirmed the validity of this method of consumption because the active ingredients of Tongkat Ali roots is only available in miniscule amount.
So it does not make sense nor is it effective to consume the roots as it is mainly cellulose.
To derive maximum benefit from a Tongkat Ali supplement, it is best to consume its root ‘Extract’ . Either in liquid form as discuss above or in powder form.
So the first thing to look out for when buying a Tongkat Ali extract supplement is to look for one that specifically states that the supplement is made of Tongkat Ali extract.
The next thing to look for is the dosage. Too little of Tongkat Ali extract does nothing for you. Bear in mind that Tongkat Ali is a herb and not a drug. So you need an appropriate amount of it to work. I suggest a minimum of at least 300 mg per capsule, per day.
Anything less than that, you are probably wasting your money.
As for the extract strength, I would say 1:50 works fine. Certainly 1:200 being the more potent one works better but it is also more expensive. If budget is not a concern, then you want to go for higher extract strength.
Other factor includes age of the roots. But this cannot be easily verified. You can only take the words of the manufacturer for it. This is why it is important to look for a supplier that offers a money-back guarantee. In the event that Tongkat Ali does not work for you, you can always fall back on the guarantee. You lose nothing.
Having said that though, you want to give Tongkat Ali extract a fair chance to see if it works for you. This means consistently taking it for at least 30 to 60 days. Like I mention earlier on, Tongkat Ali is not a drug. It is a herb. So it does not work immediately. In those cases where it does work almost immediately (as you can read from some user’s experiences on my website), they are the exceptions and not the rule.
